A MESSAGE FROM BEXLEY COUNCIL

Be Waste Wise - Householders Responsibilities

Did you Know?
All Householders have a legal duty to make sure household waste produced on their property is only passed on to an authorised person for disposal. This ensures rubbish will be disposed of legally and safely.
If an unauthorised person fly tips your waste and the rubbish is traced back to your household, you could be fined up to £5000 for the offence.

How can I make sure my waste is disposed of correctly?
If you've hired contractors such as builders, gardeners, house clearers or scrap metal merchants etc, who are removing waste items from your property, these people will need a waste carrier registration.
Ask your contractor if they're a registered waste carrier and ask for their waste carrier number. If your contractor is not registered, you should refuse their services and request they seek advice from the Environment Agency.

Be sure to check anyone offering to take your waste away "on the cheap" as it could end up a costly exercise if the waste is then fly tipped. For further information contact the Council on 020 8303 7777 www.bexley.gov.uk
