The following is an attempt to place on record the stories of the men and
women whose names are engraved on both St. James' Church Memorial in
North Cray and Foots Cray Memorial.
In researching their individual stories, it has become clear just how deeply
their sense of duty and love of their country was felt by each and every one of
them.
I hope that you will find the many varied stories as moving and intriguing as I
have, and that next time you stop to look at the Memorials, each name will
mean something to you, as it undoubtedly did to the bereaved families who
wanted to ensure that their loved ones' sacrifice would not forgotten.
Their varied and moving stories are still worth telling. We can all be thankful
and appreciate just what an unselfish sacrifice each and every one of them
made for us.
