Granting permission for this proposed change of use of a residential plot to a highly profitable
commercial venture would also signal the gradual destruction of Bexley's Green Belt as other site
owners in the area (residential or agricultural) look to take advantage of such a change of policy.
5. Building Works To comply with the Building Regulation Act 1985, the material changes needed
would include providing for disabled access and means of escape. A kitchen would probably need
to be built and a separate shower block with the extra WCs that would surely be required for as
many as 55 pupils plus 32 members of staff. And what of an indoor games room for martial arts,
basketball and table tennis etc mentioned in the Planning Permission Application? Would there be
a caretaker/groundsman to maintain the school (within term time and beyond) and to protect the
school and its equipment from theft or vandalism overnight?
Nothing is said about any of this, so it can only be assumed that – once planning permission has
been given for a school further planning applications for 'new builds' will follow.
