Dear Member
Further to our previous Groupmail issued on 4 October in which we put to you a suggested
response to the Local Government Boundary Commission in which we would propose a
new-shaped ward to replace Cray Meadows ward - one that would unite North Cray with Bexley
Village and the Coldblow area (ie St Mary's ward) but exclude that part of Footscray Meadows
lying west of the Five Arched Bridge.
There has been strong response in support for a new ward uniting North Cray with St Mary's; but
a growing feeling that the Meadows may have greater protection if all of them were to become
part of our suggested new ward. They are in a single ownership (Bexley Council) and local
support for their protection and maintenance is known to be centred east of the River Cray. In the
event of any future threat the united views of the new ward, The Friends of Footscray Meadows
and our Association would be a forceful argument against any such threat.
This is the approach we will be taking in our submission to the Boundary Commission, unless
there is a significant response from members against it.
The Committee would be grateful for any comments that you would like to make - but, again, there
is not much time before the deadline of 16 November and so we hope that, if you do have any
comments, you will let the Committee have these as soon as you can.
